- Sonu Sood had been a successful model before he began his acting career. In his first stint as an actor, he was cast in a supporting role in the Tamil movie Kallazhagar, released in 1999
- A few movies later, he made his debut in the Hindi film industry with the 2002 movie Shaheed-E-Azam
- Later that year, he also debuted in the Punjabi film industry with Zindagi Khoobsurat Hai
- Over the next few years, Sood appeared in successful Hindi movies like Yuva -- which had Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor, among others, in lead roles -- in 2004 and Aashiq Banaya Aapne in 2005
- His first role as the lead actor came in the 2005 movie Sheesha
- In the meanwhile, he was also active in the South and acted in box-office hits such as Chandramukhi, alongside Rajinikanth, and Super, which were both released in 2005
