Minister of Home Affairs, Government of India- Amit Shah was 16 when he became a part of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in 1980. Subsequently, he became a part of the organisation’s student wing — Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP)
- In 1982, he was made the joint secretary of ABVP in Gujarat
- Shah’s association with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) began in 1987 when he joined the party’s youth wing, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM)
- In 1989, he became the secretary of BJP in Ahmedabad. During this period, he played a pivotal role in publicising the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi movement and the Ekta Yatra
- In 1995, Shah took charge as the chairman of the Gujarat State Finance Corporation
- In 1997, he was made the national treasurer of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM)
- He was elected to the Legislative Assembly for the first time in 1997 with the seat of the Sarkhej constituency. He also won the next four consecutive assembly elections from Sarkhej and was elected for a fifth consecutive term, in 2012, from the Naranpura constituency
- In 1998, Shah was appointed as the state secretary of BJP in Gujarat
- The following year, in 1999, he was promoted as BJP’s vice-president in Gujarat
- In 2000, he was given charge of the Ahmedabad District Cooperative Bank as its chairman and during his tenure, he turned the bank profitable
- After registering a victory in the Assembly elections, Shah was given charge of various ministries under the Modi government in Gujarat
- In 2013, he was named the national general secretary of BJP and given charge of the crucial state of Uttar Pradesh
- In the 2014 general elections, Shah was widely seen as the architect of BJP’s victory. Under his leadership, BJP and its allies bagged 73 seats out of 80 in UP
- Soon after Narendra Modi took oath as the Prime Minister, Shah was appointed as the party’s national president
- He was re-elected as the national president of BJP in 2016
- In 2017, he became a Member of Parliament and was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Gujarat
- Under his presidentship, BJP came back to power in 2019 with a thumping victory, the party won 303 seats in the Lok Sabha
- He was also elected to the lower house from the prestigious Gandhinagar constituency
