On Friday evening, Adhikari met Union home minister Amit Shah. On Friday morning, he met President Murmu, followed by meetings with the PM, Vice President CP Radhakrishnan, defence minister Rajnath Singh and BJP national president Nitin Nabin. Sources told ET that Adhikari had several issues on his agenda for discussion with the central leadership and the Union government. During his meetings with Shah and Rajnath, discussions largely focused on border fencing along the Bangladesh border and the handover of land in the Chicken's Neck corridor to the NHAI for development purposes. Adhikari also sought to ensure the implementation of all central government schemes, including Ayushman Bharat.
Recently, Adhikari had stated that all illegal migrants would be deported to Bangladesh and that those whose names are deleted from the SIR would not receive benefits under government schemes. Sources further told ET that the Bengal government is planning to identify and hand over illegal immigrants from Bangladesh to BSF, following which the force would decide the next course of action.
