- Jyotiraditya Scindia entered politics after the sudden demise of his father, and the then MP (Member of Parliament) from Guna, in Madhya Pradesh (MP), Madhavrao Scindia, in 2001
- He was first elected to the Lok Sabha in the 2002 by-election from the Guna constituency. During his first term, he served as a member of the Standing Committee on Finance and the Standing Committee on External Affairs
- Scindia was re-elected for a second term to the Lower House in 2004. This time, he was given the charge of the Committee on Estimates, Committee on Petitions, the Standing Committee on Defence and the Standing Committee on Finance as a member
- In 2008, he was appointed as minister of state in the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology
- In 2009, he was elected for a third term in the Lok Sabha. In this term, he was made the union minister of state for commerce and industry and was later appointed as the union minister of state (independent charge) for power
- Scindia was re-elected for a fourth term which began in 2014. During his fourth term, he was a member of the Committee on Privileges, Standing Committee on Finance and in the consultative committee of the Ministry of Home Affairs
- In 2020, he resigned as a member of the Indian National Congress and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party
