“We are moving now towards becoming a logistics powerhouse, not only of India, but hopefully by 2030, for the world, enabled by services like ‘24 Speed Post’ and ‘48 Speed Post’,” the minister said at an event marking 75 Years of Postal Training Centre (PTC), Saharanpur, here in the national capital.
Department of Posts’ India Post is the third-largest public sector recruiter with 4.8 lakh employees, including postmen, after the defence ministry and the railways ministry.
Scindia said that, in addition to improvements in financial performance, India Post has enhanced its focus on Six Sigma principles, on-time delivery, soft skills, and customer service.
“It is these institutions…that bring about a sense of service in every single individual across our dark parivaar,” he said. “Our motto through this institution is one that today circumnavigates the globe. As we move into a new future, we have set very tall targets for ourselves.”
The event also saw the signing of an agreement to onboard the Goa government and the Cochin Port Authority onto SAMPANN, an end-to-end digital platform that covers the entire pension lifecycle of telecom pensioners.
SAMPANN enables direct credit of pension into the bank accounts of around 4.8 lakh telecom pensioners belonging to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), and VSNL.

“The Department of Telecommunications, through this software, has tied up with the government of Goa and the Cochin Port Authority, to be able to take this concept of service at your door to other institutions,” he added.
