BJP Bengal manifesto: Amit Shah vows to implement Uniform Civil Code within 6 months

Under Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s West Bengal poll manifesto, Home Minister Amit Shah promised to implement Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state within 6 months of forming government.

Shah presented Bengal BJP Sankalp Patra and reflect upon the party's chargesheet presented before the people of the state. "It reflected the deep disappointment prevailing under Mamata Banerjee’s 15 years of governance," he said, adding that the manifesto represents a pledge of trust.

"Several BJP-ruled states have implemented the Uniform Civil Code. Within six months, we will implement the UCC in Bengal and ensure that a single, uniform set of laws applies to all citizens across the state," he said, adding that the party will not only seal Bengal's borders against infiltrators but also ensure that not a single cow is smuggled out of India through Bengal.

"Once BJP wins Bengal, it will ensure one law for all, secure borders, have zero-tolerance towards infiltration, stop cattle smuggling," Shah added.

The party's election campaign will be guided by key issues, and this manifesto serves as the roadmap for how the Bharatiya Janata Party will build a developed Bengal, the minister said.

Shah asserted that West Bengal seeks change from the Trinamool Congress, while also announcing public outreach programmes in Debra and a roadshow in Kharagpur.

Based on this Sankalp Patra, he said, the next five years under a BJP government will open new paths for the state’s development.

Taking a jibe at the opposition, he said that West Bengal chief minister Mamata Didi has spent three terms promoting fear, discrimination, and corruption. "But now, on the basis of BJP’s promise of trust, the people of Bengal will seek a new path, one based on rule of law, personal and national security, employment, and the creation of a ‘Sonar Bangla’," he said.

BJP's Sankalp Patra vowing UCC implementation in West Bengal comes at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored party's commitment to uniform civil code and one nation-one election in his virtual address to the party's rank and file on the 47th formation day of the organisation.

"Our mission continues. A serious discussion is taking place in the country on issues like uniform civil code and one nation-one election and there has been positive progress on them," he said.
