  • After completing his education, Nitish Kumar worked for the Bihar State Electricity Board for a while
  • In 1974, he joined the Janata Party
  • In 1985, he was elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly. During this time, he served as a member of the Committee on Petitions and the Committee on Public Undertakings in the Bihar Legislative Assembly
  • He was appointed as the president of the Yuva Lok Dal in Bihar in 1987
  • In 1989, he became the secretary-general of the Janata Dal in 1989
  • In 1989, he was also elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time and made the Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Co-operation
