Patna: BJP leader Samrat Choudhary took oath as the CM of Bihar on Wednesday. Governor Syed Ata Hasnain administered the oath to Choudhary and to two JDU leaders -- Vijay Choudhary and Bijendra Yadav -- who are ministers in the present cabinet. Later, Vijay Choudhary and Yadav were announced as the state's deputy CMs.

Former Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, BJP president Nitin Nabin, Union ministers JP Nadda and Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and BJP general secretary BL Santhosh were present during the oath-taking ceremony. The portfolios were announced after the swearing-in ceremony. For now, Samrat Choudhary will hold 29 portfolios, including home and general administration. Deputy CM Vijay Choudhary will hold 10 portfolios while Bijendra Yadav will hold nine portfolios. Cabinet expansion will take place at a later date where ministers from all the alliance partners will be accommodated.

Samrat is the first BJP CM of the state and several party leaders, including PM Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah congratulated him. "Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to Samrat Chaudhary on taking oath as the CM of Bihar! His energy, dedication to public service, and grassroots experience will prove extremely beneficial for the state. I am fully confident that under his capable leadership, while fulfilling the aspirations of the people, Bihar will touch new heights of all-round development," PM Modi posted on X.

Nitish Kumar also congratulated him promising full cooperation and guidance for the new administration. At his first meeting with state senior officials as CM, Samrat asked them to adopt a zero-tolerance policy on corruption at all levels. He asked the state bureaucracy to ensure implementation of policies and projects adopted during the Nitish government at the ground level.
