RCP Singh
A poster at the JDU office in Patna last week sparked speculation that former Union minister RCP Singh could return to the party after nearly three-and-a-half years. "JDU welcomes RCP Singh in the family," the poster read.

In the recent Assembly elections, Singh had joined Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraj. His daughter, Lata Singh, contested from the Asthawan seat in Nalanda on a Jan Suraj ticket but lost. Following the elections, Singh - who had earlier criticised Chief Minister Nitish Kumar - began praising him, referring to Kumar as his mentor and guardian. He also said he shared a strong personal rapport with Nitish Kumar and credited him for Bihar's development.

Senior JD(U) leader Shyam Rajak said the party remained Singh's political home and that he was free to return at any time. The top leadership, however, has maintained silence on the matter, with clarity expected in the coming days.

Singh was once considered close to Nitish Kumar and had served as the party's national president. He became a Union minister in the NDA government in 2019, but his Rajya Sabha term was not renewed by the party, prompting him to quit JD(U) in 2022. He later joined the BJP and, ahead of the Assembly polls, shifted to Jan Suraj.
