  • An arts graduate of Kolkata's prestigious Scottish Church College, Derek O'Brien began his professional career as a journalist with the Sportsworld magazine
  • He joined as a creative head in the advertising firm Ogilvy in 1984 and led its Delhi and Kolkata units. At the same time, he also started hosting quiz shows and embarked on a career as a quizmaster
  • He became famous as a quizmaster after successful shows like Bata North Star Quiz, Maggi Quiz and the Bournvita Quiz Contest that were centred around school students
  • His entry into corporate quiz shows started with the Economic Times Brand Equity Quiz, which became extremely popular with company executives in India
