Union minister Amit Shah in Rajya Sabha
New Delhi: Derek O'Brien, the Trinamool Congress floor leader in the Rajya Sabha, has submitted a privilege notice against Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his statements on B R Ambedkar.

O'Brien claimed in the notice that Shah's words undermined Ambedkar's legacy and the dignity of Parliament.

TMC MPs also raised the matter in Rajya Sabha and staged a walkout during the post-lunch session.

According to a source, O'Brien filed a privilege notice against Shah in accordance with Rule 187 of the Rajya Sabha Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business.

"The home minister's comments against Ambedkar ji was an insult to the country. "Babasaheb gave us our Constitution, and the same Babasaheb was insulted by the home minister," TMC Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev said as party MPs stormed out. "If this party had won 400 seats, what would they have done to the Dalits and tribals?" she wondered.
