Derek O'Brien suspended amid Oppn fracas over demand for HM Shah's statement in RS
The Rajya Sabha session faced disruptions today as opposition members protested against the suspension of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Derek O'Brien. Despite repeated adjournments in the post-lunch session, the House reconvened at 4 pm. Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar requested the suspended member, O'Brien, to comply with the order and leave the House.

Chairman Dhankhar considered O'Brien's refusal to leave the House as a serious violation and a deliberate act of defiance. As a result, Piyush Goyal, the leader of the House, introduced a resolution under Rule 192 to address the matter in the committee of privileges of the Rajya Sabha.

The chairman promptly put forward the resolution, which was passed by a voice vote. Dhankhar stated, "The motion is adopted. The matter will be referred to the committee of privileges of the Rajya Sabha for examination, investigation, and report within a period of three months."

Despite repeated requests from the chairman, O'Brien did not comply and continued to stay in the House. The opposition members persisted with their protest, leading to an uproar. Consequently, the chairman adjourned the House proceedings until Friday.
