Amit Shah flags off India’s first LNG train, unveils 12,000-HP WAG-12 facility at Sabarmati

Union Home Minister Amit Shah flagged off the country’s first LNG-powered train from Sabarmati Railway Station in Ahmedabad and launched several other Indian Railways projects in the Sabarmati Division.The projects include facilities linked to the 12,000-horsepower WAG-12 locomotive, railway infrastructure and the Kavach safety system. Ahmedabad Division DRM Ved Prakash said the WAG-12 can support double-stack and long-haul freight operations.Shah also highlighted Indian Railways’ efforts to reduce diesel consumption and expand electrification, saying diesel use fell from 293 crore litres in 2015-16 to 108 crore litres in 2024-25.
