Dr Saurabh Sethi, a gastroenterologist and hepatologist with over 25 years of experience and training from AIIMS, Stanford, and Harvard University, recently shared his top advice for reducing belly fat. In an Instagram post on November 17, he highlighted three essential tips to lose belly fat, writing in the caption: “Three best tips to lose belly fat fast. What’s the one belly-fat mistake you think you’re making right now?”
3 Tips to Lose Belly Fat, According to Dr Sethi
Dr Sethi explained that intermittent fasting, combined with mindful eating and smart beverage choices, can support fat loss. Here are the three strategies he recommends:1. Start With a 12:12 Fasting Schedule
Dr Sethi suggests beginning with the simplest form of intermittent fasting — the 12:12 schedule. This includes a 12-hour eating window and a 12-hour fasting period. For example, eating between 7 AM and 7 PM and fasting from 7 PM to 7 AM.
2. Choose the Right Fat-Loss Drinks
During the fasting period, Dr Sethi recommends sticking to beverages that do not break the fast. These include:
- Black coffee
- Green or black tea
- Water
- Apple cider vinegar
- Lemon water
- Fennel or basil water
- Chamomile or ginger tea
3. Eat a High-Fibre, High-Protein Diet
In the eating window, Dr Sethi advises focusing on meals rich in protein and fibre to stay full for longer and support fat burning. Protein options can include paneer, tofu, chickpeas, chicken, turkey, and fish. Fibre can be added through fresh fruits and vegetables. The Economic Times Business News App for the Latest News in Business, Sensex, Stock Market Updates & More.
