‘India signed FTAs with 38 nations vs 4 under UPA’: Rajnath Singh speaks in Colombo

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in Colombo, Sri Lanka says "Before 2014, the UPA government had managed to sign comprehensive trade agreements with only 4 countries" and adds "we have signed free trade agreements with major global economies, successfully concluding such pacts with 38 countries" while calling the India-EU FTA the "mother of all deals" opening a "$27 trillion" market, as seen in ANI video dated Sept 9, 2026. He also says "Today, India is the fastest-growing economy in the world" accounting for "more than 16% of that growth" with GDP at "approximately 7.8%" and average inflation at "4.7%" versus "10% to 11%" under Congress, noting it took "60 years for India's economy to reach the $1 trillion mark" and "approximately $2 trillion" in 2014 before doubling.
