CJI Gavai names Justice Surya Kant as successor ahead of Nov 23 retirement
Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai has recommended Justice Surya Kant as his successor, initiating the process for the appointment of the next Chief Justice. Justice Kant, currently the senior-most judge after CJI Gavai, will assume office on November 24, 2025, as the 53rd Chief Justice of India.
