Many people may not be aware of it but there is a school within the premises of IIT Madras and Gnanasekar did his formal schooling from that school in IIT Madras campus. Thereafter, he did his software engineering back in 1992 from Madras University. He started his career in Equities analysis at Dalal Street Journal and then moved to The Wall Street Journal. He interacted with some of the top global analysts in commodities in the US. He joined Bank of Nova Scotia as a Forex/commodity dealer where he got exposed extensively in trading and market making. Then he started his own research firm with the help of his colleagues Mr. Yeshwant Rao, Ex Head of Trading Strategies, Reliance Industries and Mr. G. Chandrashekhar, Ex Commodities editor of The Hindu Business Line.

His Journey in His Own Words
It has been a long and arduous journey. I landed into commodities, not by design. The initial phase of commodities trading in the country was tough and there were a lot of apprehensions, which we were able to cross and I was a part of that team which was involved in breaking myths of commodity trading. The hallmark of this memorable journey was when I received The best Commodity Analyst award from Mr Pranab Mukherjee in 2012. There are many significant trades in both agri and non-agri commodities. But, one stands out. When the metal cycle turned in 2016, advised clients in both commodities and equities to buy metals and metal-related companies. Metal prices bounced higher by roughly 10% and individual metal stocks rose by more than 100% in that particular cycle. I now work with corporates and organizations exposed to commodity price risk both in India and overseas.
