Young man who lost 8 kgs in 6 months reveals the one diet trick that accelerated fat loss: ‘What worked was eating…’
A fitness enthusiast shared his eight-kilogram weight loss journey over six months, emphasizing consistent, strategic eating and adaptable workout routines. Despite setbacks like an injury and weight regain, he successfully recommitted to his goal...

Simple Yet Strategic Eating Habits
According to the individual, nutrition played a central role in his progress. He focused on including at least one solid protein source in every meal, such as paneer, eggs, chicken, fish or occasionally soya. Alongside protein, he balanced his plate with either roti or rice and dal, depending on the time of day and personal preference. While he did track calories, he felt the biggest difference came from eating the same foods repeatedly. This allowed him to monitor changes in body weight closely and adjust portion sizes to maintain a calorie deficit. For instance, instead of completely cutting out staples, he reduced quantities, such as lowering roti intake from two to one while keeping protein steady. He clarified that this approach did not mean eating identical meals daily, but rather rotating similar foods in controlled portions.
Evolving Workout Structure
His fitness routine began with a push-pull-legs split, which he followed six days a week. To prevent burnout and injury, he scheduled "deload weeks" every six to eight weeks, often aligning them with planned travel or breaks. Over time, he modified his program to an upper-lower body split followed by a rest day, then returned to a push-pull-legs cycle with another rest day. This structure allowed him to train five days a week while improving recovery.Tracking Time, Steps and Progress
He began his fat-loss phase on February 20, 2025, taking over four months to lose seven kilograms initially. After the first two months, he added daily step goals to increase activity levels. His walking gradually progressed from 7,000 steps a day to 10,000, and eventually 12,000. However, mid-year challenges emerged when an injury disrupted his gym routine for nearly three months. This inconsistency, combined with relaxed eating, led to a regain of four kilograms.Regaining Control After Setbacks
Determined to get back on track, he recommitted to his routine after Diwali in November. He adopted a more aggressive fat-loss phase, increasing his daily steps to 15,000 for three weeks and then pushing to 20,000 for another three weeks. During this phase, he also started using creatine, which likely caused temporary water retention. Accounting for this, he estimated his actual fat loss exceeded five kilograms.Looking Ahead
The individual noted that before this focused phase, his training had been irregular for over a year. In reality, he felt he had trained consistently for only eight to nine months. While pleased with his progress, he acknowledged that further fat loss remains a goal, reinforcing that transformation is an ongoing process rather than a finished destination. The Economic Times Business News App for the Latest News in Business, Sensex, Stock Market Updates & More.
