The one book that’s helped Chhabra get through the lockdown is 'The Innovator’s Toolkit' by David Silverstein, Neil DeCarlo and Philip Samuel.
Prior to the nationwide lockdown, Tupperware India MD Deepak Chhabra would stroll around the massive open spaces at the company’s Gurugram office whenever he was on a work call. He would also take one final stroll across the office, at the end of the workday, to bid his teams goodbye. Since that stroll through the office is no longer an option, Chhabra has taken to pacing around his home work space and the adjoining balcony.
“Yes, walk-and-talk continues while taking work calls,” he tells ETPanache. “I have a designated work space that is connected to my balcony.
I usually walk in the free area around it only but if the call crosses a certain duration, I take a couple of rounds around my balcony. It has a lot of plants and turns out to be a refreshing retreat.”
Why does he do the walk-and-talk? Chhabra says, “I feel this activity helps to get ‘unstuck’ challenging issues. It also spurs creative, deeper ways of thinking often released by mood-im-proving physical activity.”
Dabbling in the kitchen Though he is eager to get back to the office and see his team in person, Chhabra has found this time in lockdown to be useful. “During this time, I have explored the chef in me. I prepare breakfast for my family post my workout, which is a mix of cardio and walk on my terrace. “By 7 pm, [when] work takes a backseat, I spend time with my family, watch the news or help to prepare the last meal for the day. Post dinner, I like to read a book or stream documentaries or television series.”
The one book that’s helped him get through the lockdown is 'The Innovator’s Toolkit' by David Silverstein, Neil DeCarlo and Philip Samuel. “The book presents fundamental tools and concepts for innovation and includes methods and strategies for improving products and services or creating new ones,” he says. “Considering the current times, innovation is more critical than ever before.”
