The taunt was made because after Smith slapped Chris, he had angrily yelled at the comedian asking the comedian to keep his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith's name out of his mouth.
The Grammys televised gala in Las Vegas kicked off with a string of jokes by host Trevor Noah, and yes, he did have something to say about the 'slapgate' at the Oscars. The controversy of Will Smith slapping Chris Rock on the Oscars stage has been one the biggest pop culture moment this award season, and comedians everywhere have addressed the issue. However, it is Noah, actor LeVar Burton and comedian Nate Bargazte who did not shy away from offering their two cents on the topic at a stage as grand as the Grammys.

Taking a dig at Will Smith, Noah made an oblique reference to the threat that Smith made to Rock on the Oscars stage after slapping the comedian. Noah teasingly said, "We're going to be keeping people's names out of our mouths." The taunt was made because after Smith slapped Chris, he had angrily yelled at the comedian asking the comedian to keep his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith's name out of his mouth.

However, it wasn't just Noah taking a jab at the 'King Richard' star at the Grammys. Actor LeVar Burton, who introduced Nate Bargazte as a presenter in the Grammys pre-ceremony told the audience, "I want to warn you all that our next presenter is a comedian. If you know what I mean...So I need to caution everybody: Remain in your seats and keep your hands to yourself. Alright?"

Following Burton's joke Nate Bargazte walked onto the stage wearing a black helmet. "They said comedians have to wear these now at award shows during their joke parts...It doesn’t even cover your face, I think it just focuses where you would hit me," the comedian joked.

For those of you who do not know what the slapgate is, here are the details. On the evening of the award ceremony, Will Smith huffed in anger as he walked straight onto the stage from his front-row Dolby Theatre seat and lodged slaps on Chris Rock’s cheeks because the comedian made fun of his wife – Jada Pinkett Smith’s baldness and compared her to ‘G.I Jane’. Pinkett Smith’s baldness is caused by a medical condition called alopecia that results in extreme or complete hair fall.

The actor’s angry outburst immediately caused the Academy members to request his exit. However, he refused to leave the auditorium and later that night, won the trophy for the Best Actor award for his performance in ‘King Richard’. While accepting his award, the actor said, “In this business, you gotta be able to have people disrespecting you and you gotta smile and you gotta pretend like that's OK. "
The actor further added that he wanted to apologize to the Academy and all his fellow nominees. “This is a beautiful moment and I'm not crying for winning an award. It's not about winning an award for me…I'm hoping the Academy invites me back. Thank you,” he concluded.

A day later, Smith took to his Instagram profile to issue a public apology to Rock yet again. This time the actor wrote,” My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally…I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”

The actor eventually resigned from the Academy of Motion Pictures. A disciplinary committee set up by the Oscars is currently looking into his misconduct.
