Jada breaks her silence on Will Smith-Chris Rock 'slapgate' at the Oscars, says ‘this is a season for healing’

Jada Pinkett Smith, the woman who is at the center of the Will Smith-Chris Rock altercation on the Oscars stage has finally broken her silence on the matter. The ‘Gotham’ actress took to her Instagram account and posted a cryptic message on Tuesday alluding to the Oscars episode. She wrote, “This is a season of healing and I’m here for it.”

While Pinkett Smith did not refer to the incident in detail when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock because the comedian cracked a joke about her medical condition which causes baldness to elicit laughs from the audience, her cryptic message does refer to the emotional and mental turmoil she and her husband had been through, ever since the episode happened.

Pinkett Smith’s husband’s win at the Oscars for his performance in ‘King Richard’ has been completely overshadowed by his misconduct with Rock on stage, for which the ‘Men In Black’ star is currently facing a formal investigation done by the Academy.

For Pinkett Smith, who rolled her eyes when Rock was making people laugh at her baldness caused by alopecia, the journey of hair loss and the decision to chop off all her hair had not been an easy one.

The actress revealed in 2018 that she had been struggling with alopecia. For those of you who have never heard about this condition, alopecia is an autoimmune disorder that causes all or some of the hair to fall out. The hair often falls out in clumps the size and shape of a quarter. However, how the hair loss progresses or the degree to which it happens varies from person to person.

In December, last year, the actress began losing hair in band shape. The 50-year-old took to her Instagram account and posted a video in which she can be seen completely bald, and wrote, "Mama’s gonna have to take it down to the scalp so nobody thinks she got brain surgery or something. Me and this alopecia are going to be friends period! (sic)."

In the video, the actress talked about living with alopecia, and the sudden twists and turns that the disease had thrown at her. She said, "Now at this point, I can only laugh. You all know I've been struggling with alopecia and just all of a sudden one day, look at this line right here. Look at that. So it just showed up like that and this is going to be a little bit more difficult for me to hide. So I thought I'd just share it so y'all are not asking any questions," said Jada in the video.

Talking about her own struggles with the disorder, Jada Pinkett Smith in a 2018 Facebook interview revealed that she was terrified the first time her hair started falling out. The ‘Gotham’ actress said,“I was in the shower one day and had just handfuls of hair in my hands and I was just like, ‘Oh, my God, am I going bald?...It was one of those times in my life where I was literally shaking with fear.”

The actress revealed that the decision to chop off her hair wasn’t an easy one, as she took a lot of pleasure in her haircare rituals, and she thought that her hair was a big part of her.
