PC Musthafa, founder, iD Fresh Food, grew up in a remote village in Kerala, where he often took up odd jobs for some extra cash. Things were lean. Breakfast was a luxury. Fast forward to a few decades later, Musthafa is very much in the business of breakfast. He didn’t wait to learn about the market 100 per cent. He made his mistakes. And one, was quite an explosion.

At a recent conclave, Musthafa enthralled the audience by narrating a story of how they got a surprise call one day.

“The vendor said to come running, there was a bomb blast in the kitchen. I told him to please call the police. But he insisted that we come because there was a bomb in the batter we had given him.”

When Musthafa’s team reached, they were asked to clear out the sticky mess of batter. Like the vendor, Musthafa admitted that, at the time, he did not know that batter ferments and fermentation caused gas to form, which led to the explosion. Musthafa pointed out that it is okay to make mistakes — as long as you learn from it.
