Google doodle shares voting tips again as sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections kicks off

Today, voting will take place in six states and the national capital.

NEW DELHI: Google today marked the commencement of the sixth phase of 17th Lok Sabha polls with an elections doodle. The doodle featured an inked finger and leads users to a page that shares information on voting when clicked.

The first five phases of polling took place on April 11, April 18, April 23 and May 6. Today, polling will take place in six states - Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand - and the national capital, Delhi. 979 candidates will be contesting for the remaining 59 seats.

The final phase of elections is slated for May 19. Election Commission will begin the counting of votes on May 23 and final results will be announced on the same day.

When clicked on the doodle's inked finger, the page directs people to a page explaining the steps on how to vote.

HOW TO VOTE: Indian general election, 2019

You can vote only if your name appears in the Voter List (also known as Electoral Roll). Voters can also find information on Polling Booths, Contesting candidates, Election Dates & Timings, Identity cards and EVM.

Voting Process at Polling Booth
- First polling official will check your name on the voter list and check your ID proof
- Second polling official will ink your finger, give you a slip and take your signature on a register (Form 17A)
- You will have to deposit the slip at the third polling official and show your inked finger and then proceed to the polling booth
- Record your vote by pressing the ballot button opposite the symbol of the candidate of your choice on the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM); You will hear a beep sound
- Check the slip that appears in the transparent window of the VVPAT machine. The slip with the Candidate serial No., Name and Symbol shall be visible for 7 seconds before it drops in the sealed VVPAT box
