Elon Musk holds Twitter Blue verified service, says relaunch only until ‘high confidence’ of curbing impersonation

The much-debated launch of the blue verification service may take some more time. Earlier, the new boss of Twitter, Elon Musk had announced that the Twitter Blue service will be launched on November 29. However, now it seems the service has been temporary halted.

The SpaceX chief took to his Twitter account to announce the delay in the launch of the Twitter blue verification service. Musk said that the Blue Verified service is being put on hold, adding that the service will be launched with a different colour check for organisations distinguishing them from individuals.

His latest tweet suggested that the relaunch will happen when there is high confidence of stopping impersonation.


“Holding off relaunch of Blue Verified until there is high confidence of stopping impersonation. Will probably use different color check for organizations than individuals,” read Musk’s tweet.
Earlier, this month, Musk had announced that the relaunch of Blue verified will take place on November 29 to ensure that it is ‘rock solid’.
The Twitter Blue subscription was rolled out across a few nations. However, the service was not launched in India. Even before it was rolled out worldwide, several instances of impersonations came to the fore.

Considering the spate of fake accounts and bots that gained a foothold on the platform after the paid service was rolled out, Musk suspended the service on November 11.

The USD 8 fees to obtain the blue verified badge led to a large number of fake ‘verified’ accounts that did considerable damage to numerous brands on the platform.

Several accounts with misleading display names impersonating noted brands, personalities and CEOs lead to chaos that even . However, Musk later tweeted that any accounts imitating others will be prohibited and asked parody accounts to explicitly identify themselves as parody accounts.

Twitter had briefly introduced a grey check mark to distinguish certain accounts amid the chaos. The grey mark which was suspended was recently reinstated.
