While Sunil Chhetri’s heartfelt appeal asking fans to support Indian football became the most shared tweet last year, the footballer says he’s always been wary of social media. “Social media is a two-edged sword, and I would like for it to be used to spread only positivity, which is not always the case. There are so many people out there doing fantastic things and to see them get a shot in the arm because of the reach social media has, is heartening,” he said.

While he is moderately active on social media, and has over 1.5 million followers, it’s not something that occupies his mind. “It’s like a conversation. I’m not sure if it deserves too much thought,” Chhetri said.
