​Sunil Chhetri ties the knot; Mamata Banerjee, Chuni Goswami drop by to wish the couple

Indian football skipper Sunil Chhetri got hitched to his long-time girlfriend Sonam Bhattacharya in Kolkata on Monday night.

The poster boy of Indian football wore traditional Nepali attire complete with a ‘topi’ for the nuptials and made his entry riding a horse. He then changed into Bengali wear for the reception. Chhetri even shared a video from just before the wedding, joking about the many types of attire he was made to change into. Chhetri’s new bride is the daughter of Mohun Bagan legend Subrata Bhattacharya. Not surprising then that the guest list featured much football star power.

The wedding ceremony was followed by a reception at a private club with guests like West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and football legend Chuni Goswami. Several of Chhetri’s teammates were also present, including Gourmangi Singh and Renedy Singh.



The couple got engaged last month soon after which the 33-year-old resumed on- field act ion for Bengaluru FC. Post wedding too, Chhetri will head back to the field for a match against NorthEast United FC in Guwahati.
