“I prefer face to face interactions, so it takes a bit of getting used to the audio calls,” he told ET Panache. “I find that one needs to be more attentive and also have good listening skills.”
However, with the extended lockdown in place, the MD is getting plenty of practice via the Microsoft Teams app. He spends the majority of his day on calls with office colleagues and external partners.
Asked how he manages to strike a balance between personal and professional time, Ramakrishnan said, “I earmark certain time slots as my personal time – for my morning yoga, my meal times, and so on. I follow a (fixed) routine so that I am able to finish my office work, and yet have time for myself and for catch-ups with friends & family.”
“My typical day starts with about 75 minutes of yoga at 7:30 am followed by a light breakfast before I start my work. This usually goes on until about 6:30 pm. Lunch and dinner are when I spend quality time with my family. I then occasionally catch up on a Netflix show before retiring for the night.”
According to Ramakrishnan, the secret to working from home is creating a routine that works for you. “Try and create a routine and follow it. Make sure you get some physical exercise every day. Spend time on personal development,” he shared.

WFH - Yay or Nay? Asked if he would prefer working from home once things return to normal, Ramakrishnan said, “I would definitely prefer working from my office. I enjoy the buzz in the office, and interacting with my colleagues face to face. I also enjoy travelling to the various factories and markets. I would be happy to work from home once in a while but not on a daily basis. We are evaluating introducing WFH as part of the new “normal” which will give people the flexibility and is also good for the environment.”
