Much like he and his girlfriend Alia, Ranbir's parents – Rishi and Neetu Kapoor — were reigning stars of Bollywood when they tied the knot in January 1980. In fact, their reception was not any less star-studded than Ranbir and Alia’s is going to be. Rishi and Neetu's reception card had an RK logo on top, the event happened on 23 January at the RK Studio.
The text on their reception invite said, "Mr & Mrs Raj Kapoor request the pleasure of your company on the auspicious occasion of the marriage reception of their son Rishi (Grandson of Late Mr and Mrs Prithviraj Kapoor) with Neetu (Daughter of Mrs. Rajee Singh)."
At the time Rishi and Neetu's reception made headlines not only for the beeline of Bollywood’s who’s who. The event was also marked by a report that said that actress Rekha, who wasn’t married at the time, turned up for the event in a beautiful white saree, donning mangalsutra and sindoor, much to the shock of everyone present at the event.
Ranbir’s dad, who had a penchant for wearing white pants wore a white complete suit for the evening, while Neetu made a beautiful bride, with her hands painted with mehndi design. She wore a gorgeous saree for the evening, and had put a ghunghat over her head. She accessorised the look with a chunky nosepin, and a maang tikka (an ornament worn on the forehead).
