Books have played a role in shaping the pacer’s mental makeup.

After a long Ranji season, the lockdown has given Jaydev Unadkat time at home.
Malcolm Gladwell’s 'Blink' is one of Jaydev Unadkat’s favourite books. But the crisis the world is facing is not going to pass by in anything like a blink. It has also kept the left-arm pacer’s personal and professional life on hold.

Nevertheless, the 28-year-old sounds refreshed and cheerful as he speaks to ETPanache on phone after an afternoon siesta a few days ago.

Books have played a role in shaping Unadkat’s mental makeup.

“'From Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking' I learnt how the subconscious mind works and how to trust your gut feelings. 'Black Box Thinking: The Surprising Truth About Success' [by Matthew Syed] is about thinking outside the box,” he says.

With gyms closed, the pacer is lucky as he has one in his home.

Fitness frontier
Unadkat, the most expensive Indian in the 2018 IPL auction (bought by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 11.5 cr), is coming off a high in the form of a Ranji trophy win for Saurashtra, and breaking Dodda Ganesh’s record for most wickets by a fast bowler in a single Ranji season (65 wickets). He also got engaged last month.

After a long Ranji season, the lockdown has given Unadkat time at home. “I am spending time with family and my fiancée [Rinny] — we are getting to know each other,” he says.

With gyms closed, the pacer is lucky as he has one in his home. “Whatever one can do at home in the form of exercise is the best at the moment. I have my own regimen but there are also fitness tips available online. This is a good break and may turn out to be a blessing in disguise,” Unadkat feels.
