India’s Pacific outreach: Jaishankar details healthcare, IT & ocean cooperation initiatives at FIPIC

India is expanding its engagement with Pacific Island countries through healthcare, IT training, solarisation, capacity building, maritime support and ocean research. Addressing the FIPIC meeting in New York, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar highlighted initiatives including a super-speciality hospital in Fiji, sea ambulances, IT Centres of Excellence, solar projects and a proposed coastal and ocean research institute at the University of the South Pacific. The outreach also comes against the backdrop of India’s wider Indo-Pacific engagement and its push for stronger partnerships with Pacific island nations.
