Traditional Indian Ayurveda has long held many solutions to various health issues. In a viral Instagram video, nutritionist Kiran Kukreja shared a drink which would help women in their twilight years suffering from fatigue and various other issues. She mentioned that according to Ayurveda, if you have been having heavy periods, burning sensations when you pass urine and frequent urinary tract infections – or UTIs, excessive body heat or sweaty hands or face – you could have aggravated pitta dosha. She shared a rice-based drink that can cool the excess pitta.

Why This Drink May Be Beneficial

According to an article published by PharmEasy, lemons are a good source of vitamin C and may help the body stay cool during hot weather. Their hydrating qualities can also support fluid balance and help promote a refreshed, energised feeling, making lemon-based drinks particularly appealing during the summer months.

An article from Saumya Ayurveda highlights the traditional cooling qualities of mint, particularly when the body is experiencing excess heat. From an Ayurvedic perspective, many varieties of mint are considered supportive of maintaining harmony among the three doshas — Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

Mint is regarded as especially useful for balancing Pitta, the dosha traditionally associated with heat and intensity. It is also described as a dipana, meaning a substance that supports healthy digestion and helps maintain balanced agni, or digestive fire.

Mint is traditionally valued for its soothing effect on the digestive system. It may help calm the gastrointestinal tract, support stomach cleansing and ease discomfort associated with acid indigestion.

Peppermint, in particular, is known for its fresh and invigorating aroma, which can create a cooling and uplifting sensory experience. In Ayurvedic traditions, mint is also associated with clearing forms of stagnation affecting the circulation, mind and digestive system.

Mint additionally contains compounds with anti-inflammatory properties which may contribute to its overall wellness benefits.
