Paris Olympics: India open their medal tally as Manu Bhaker clinches bronze in women's 10 m air pistol shooting

Indian shooter Manu Bhaker clinched the bronze medal in women's 10 m air pistol shooting at the Paris Olympics, marking India's first olympic medal in 2024.

Bhaker showcased exceptional skill and composure against her Korean counterparts Kim Yeji and Oh Yeh Jin. This victory is particularly notable given the intense competition she faced from some of the world's top shooters.

Bhaker's win is a significant milestone for Indian shooting, marking the country's first medal in the sport with a total 221.7 points and growing prowess in this discipline on the international stage.

She is also a world record holder in 10m Air Pistol Women's Final (Junior) having scored 244.7 points.

Having overcome a debacle in Tokyo, where she failed to qualify in all three rounds-- women's 10m air pistol, women's 25m pistol and mixed 10m air pistol-- Bhaker's achievement is a story of remarkable comeback.

Emulating Suma Shirur's achievement from Athens in 2004, the 22-year-old shooter blitzed her way into the final, marking a historic achievement of being the first Indian female shooter to get an Olympic medal.

Moving ahead, Manu Bhaker will be playing 10 m air pistol mixed qualifiers alongside Sarabhjot Singh on July 29 at 12.45 PM. She will also be taking part in the 25 m air pistol qualifiers scheduled for August 2.
