The IPL auctions always spring surprises, whether it is an extraordinary amount of money spent on an uncapped player or an experienced player going unsold.

It was no different on Sunday, when India's Devdutt Padikkal did not get any bids. The left handed top order batter has been in and out of the Indian team this year and has had a good domestic season for Karnataka.

The 24-year-old has scored over 1,500 runs in the IPL at a strike rate of 123. He represented the Lucknow Super Giants last season and was with Rajasthan Royals in 2023. However, his best seasons came in 2020 and 2021 when he scored in excess of 200 runs.



He became first player to remain unsold in the auction that saw Indian stars like Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer go for record amounts of Rs 27 crore and Rs 26.75 crore respectively.

David Warner was also unsold. Delhi Capitals released T20 titan David Warner ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction scheduled.

Warner has been a part of the cash-rich league since 2009 and has played for two IPL teams in his career: Delhi Capitals (formerly Daredevils) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Known as "The Bull," he has won the Orange Cap three times and captained SRH to their maiden and only IPL title in the 2016 season.He has been an IPL legend with 6,565 runs at a strike rate of 140.


England's Jonny Bairstow saw no takers and went unsold. The English batter has been a prolific white ball player and was a part of the World Cup winning team in 2019 and the T20 world cup champion squad in 2022. He has scored 1,500 runs in 50 IPL matches at a a strike rate of 144.

On day 2, international players like Prithvi Shaw, Shardul Thakur, Ajinkya Rahane, Mayank Agarwal and New Zealand captain Kane Williamson went unsold.
