IPL 2025 auction: Which team will buy David Warner? These 3 franchises likely to bid for the Australian veteran
Delhi Capitals released David Warner ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, focusing on building a new core team. Warner, a T20 veteran, has played for DC and SRH, winning the Orange Cap three times and leading SRH to the 2016 title. RCB, PBKS, and KKR co...

Warner has been a part of the cash-rich league since 2009 and has played for two IPL teams in his career: Delhi Capitals (formerly Daredevils) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Warner’s IPL career has been nothing less than extraordinary. The Australian player joined Delhi Capitals in 2022 for Rs. 6.25 crores and played 34 matches for the team. Over his first two seasons, Warner scored 432 runs and 516 runs. In IPL 2023, he captained the Capitals, but despite his impressive batting, DC finished at the bottom of the points table. In the previous season, Warner was limited to just eight matches due to a finger injury, scoring 168 runs.
Known as "The Bull," he has won the Orange Cap three times and captained SRH to their maiden and only IPL title in the 2016 season.
Three teams who can go for David Warner in the upcoming auction:
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)
After releasing Faf Du Plessis, Royal Challengers Bangalore will seek a new captain and opener at the auction. With Virat Kohli's captaincy uncertain, David Warner could be a strong contender for the role. Warner’s aggressive batting style would suit the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium’s pitch, and if he joins RCB, he and Kohli could form a formidable opening partnership.Punjab Kings (PBKS)
Following a significant squad revamp, PBKS could gain from Warner’s reliable and dynamic batting at the top of the order. Like the other teams mentioned, PBKS also requires a leader, but more importantly, they lack experienced players. Warner’s inclusion would bring much-needed stability to the top order.Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)
Despite keeping their core team intact, KKR had to release Phil Salt, a key player in the previous IPL, and now requires an aggressive opener. Following Shreyas Iyer's release, KKR is also in search of a new captain, with limited funds available. Warner could be the ideal choice for both roles. The Economic Times Business News App for the Latest News in Business, Sensex, Stock Market Updates & More.
