Rahul Dravid's tenure as the head coach of Indian men's cricket team is until June 2024
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary, Jay Shah, has reportedly confirmed that an advertisement will soon be released to hire a new head coach for the Indian cricket team. This announcement comes amidst speculation about the future of Rahul Dravid, who has been serving as the head coach since November 2021.

Dravid's contract as the head coach of the Indian team is set to expire in June, coinciding with the upcoming T20 World Cup campaign. Despite having his contract extended after the 2023 ODI World Cup, it appears unlikely that Dravid will be granted another extension, with the board preparing to scout for new coaching talent.

While Dravid has the option to apply for the role, Shah emphasized that there will be no automatic extension this time around. "Rahul's tenure is only up to June. So if he wants to apply, he is free to do so," Shah told CricBuzz.

Furthermore, Shah indicated that the decision regarding the nationality of the new coach will be left to the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), with the possibility of considering both Indian and foreign candidates. "We cannot determine whether the new coach will be Indian or foreign. It will be up to the CAC, and we are a global body," Shah explained.

Addressing concerns about potentially having different coaches for different formats, Shah clarified that such decisions would also be made by the CAC. He highlighted the presence of many all-format players in the Indian team and emphasized that there is no precedent for such a scenario in India.

Shah also touched upon the controversial Impact Player rule, which has faced criticism from several active international stars, including India captain Rohit Sharma. While acknowledging the feedback, Shah stated that discussions with stakeholders, including franchises and broadcasters, will be held to determine the rule's continuation. "We will discuss with the stakeholders - franchises and broadcasters - before deciding on the continuation of the Impact Player," Shah stated, underscoring the rule's experimental nature.
