Why Rinku Singh wasn't selected for T20 World Cup? BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar reveals the reason
BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar explained why Rinku Singh wasn't chosen for India’s 15-member T20 World Cup squad, stating it wasn't due to any fault of his. Agarkar emphasized the importance of the squad's composition, particularly the need for ...
Agarkar said, "It's probably the toughest thing that we have had to discuss. He has done nothing wrong nor Shubman Gill for that matter. It's about the combination."
"Like Rohit said, we are not quite sure what conditions we will get. So, we wanted to have enough options. A couple of spinners were included in the squad...It's just unfortunate. I don't think it has anything to do with Rinku Singh. It is not his fault that he has missed out. It is more the 15 that we felt...At the end of the day, you can only pick 15," he added.
Several fans have raised question about the omission of certain players like Rinku Singh from India's T20 squad.
Ajit Agarkar also explained the central idea behind the selection of the team for the upcoming tournament.
Speaking at the press conference with Indian team captain Rohit Sharma, Agarkar said that the selection decision was not made based on 3-4 weeks of cricket.
Earlier this week, BCCI announced the Indian squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup on Tuesday. The board secretary, Jay Shah, along with chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Rahul Dravid, convened at a hotel in Ahmedabad to finalize the 15-member roster.
Rohit Sharma has been selected to lead the squad, with Hardik Pandya as his deputy. While the decision to appoint the somewhat out-of-form Hardik as vice-captain has raised eyebrows, the BCCI has opted to maintain its faith in him, considering his prior experience leading India in T20Is.
