New Delhi: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar will hold a virtual rally on September 6 to kick off campaigning for the upcoming assembly election.

The rally, which was earlier scheduled to be held on August 7, was postponed in view of the rising graph of Covid-19 cases in the state.

Kumar’s JD (U) has prepared the ground for making the virtual rally a success, said party members.

“The party has developed its own live digital platform to connect chief minister Nitish Kumar with the people of our state,” said a party member, who did not wish to be identified.

JD(U) leaders held a series of meetings in July with party members who are associated with the different prakoshtha (cells). Earlier, in May, Kumar had held discussions with party workers and senior leaders, including MPs and MLAs, through digital platforms to collect feedback from the ground level amid the coronavirus crisis.

In the September 6 virtual rally, Kumar may highlight the achievements of his government in the past five years, said party members. He may particularly focus on his “seven resolves” programme (better known as Nitish Ke Saat Nischay), they said.

The CM has already gone into election mode. His government has taken a decision to increase the basic salary of the teachers and librarians who were appointed through Panchayati Raj institutions and urban civic bodies in 2006. The government has also decided to revise the service condition of such teachers, besides giving them benefits of the Employees’ Provident Fund.

The number of such teachers in Bihar is around 350,000. Earlier, the teachers had launched an agitation in support of their demand for “equal pay for equal work”.
