Narayan Sai works his charm on jail inmates

SURAT: Narayan Sai's charm has begun to work on the inmates at Lajpor Central Jail ( LCJ), with many joining him in his daily yoga sessions and others showing their reverence for him from a distance. As a routine, the rape accused comes out of his cell in the jail and does yoga in an open space.

Other inmates have no inhibitions and join him for he convinces them that yoga rigours would ensure better physical fitness. Sai, who is also embroiled in the case of trying to bribe officials of different departments by offering them Rs 13 crore to wriggle free from the tangle, in the concluding part of the session talks on spirituality and retribution for sins.

Sai, who will be in judicial custody till January 10, moves freely inside the LCJ campus and can also be seen chatting with guards too, sources said.

Recently, he threw a tantrums and refused to eat the jail food. However, the jail authorities refused to buckle down and said nothing doing. He demanded fruit and milk from a few guards, but his request was turned down. The jail authorities said that as an undertrial he was entitled to food from outside, but it had to be provided only by his relatives only.

"Sai gets the same food that other inmates are given. If the food is supplied to him by one of his blood relations, then we would allow because he is an undertrial," LCJ superintendent R M Pande said.

LCJ authorities claimed special security arrangements have been made for Sai in the jail and that he is not allowed to mix with hardened criminals.
