Bank duped of Rs 93 lakh by gang posing as ministry employees

NEW DELHI: A leading private bank was duped of Rs 93.80 lakh by 17 persons posing as labour ministry employees, the police said today.

A case has been registered on a complaint by an employee of ICICI Bank with the crime branch, they added.

The accused persons took loans from the bank to the tune of Rs 93.80 lakh by submitting fake ID cards of the ministry and other documents.

The fraud happened in 2016 and following the discovery of the fraud, an internal inquiry was conducted by the bank, police said.

After the inquiry found that the loans had been procured on fake documents, they approached the police and a case was registered.

Police have begun probing the matter and will also be questioning the bank employees who were associated with clearing the loans.
