Average assets of legislators have jumped by Rs 1.79 cr during past 5 years, a think tank working on electoral reforms has revealed.

Even the demand for probity in public life, following the Anna Hazare movement, has not deterred political parties from fielding tainted candidates in the forthcoming assembly polls.

Assembly elections are going to be held in five states - Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur and Goa. Campaigning has reached peak in all the states.
