The demand for probity in public life, following the Anna Hazare movement, has not deterred political parties from fielding tainted candidates in the forthcoming assembly polls.

In Uttarakhand, where the campaigning is reaching a fever pitch for the January 30 Assembly elections, several politicians are facing the tag of "outsider" due to the change in their constituencies post delimitation.

BJP leader and Chief Minister B C Khanduri is one of the main candidates who have been forced to leave their previous constituency.

The average assets of legislators in Uttarakhand have jumped by Rs 1.79 crore during the past five years, a reputed think tank working on electoral reforms has revealed.

A BJP MLA, whose total assets stood at Rs 78 lakh in 2007, has now reached Rs 7.04 crore with a whopping spike of 803 per cent, according to the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).
