From the Red Fort on India’s 80th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a two-pronged message, warning about growing geopolitical risks while hitting out at those he described as ‘future-tellers’ who spread fear. Modi warned that resources, fuel, medicines, technology and strategic sea routes were increasingly being weaponised, posing risks to India’s economic security. He stressed greater self-reliance in energy and critical sectors. At the same time, he recalled fearmongering during COVID-19 and global crises, saying India’s preparedness and strategic planning helped it navigate major challenges.
