Northeast’s rail gateway Assam now 100% electrified after 169-km Lumding hill section
Assam’s railway network is now 100 per cent electrified, following the completion of the challenging 169-kilometre Lumding-Badarpur Hill section. Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted India’s rapid railway electrification at the centenary celebrations of SRCC. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma called the development a major milestone, while highlighting station redevelopment, new destinations and line augmentation across the state. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the completion marks the end of Assam’s railway electrification journey and will enable more environment-friendly rail movement.
