India faces fresh US tariff risk over Russian oil purchases as US house passes Sanctions bill

The US House has passed the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026 by 262–159, sending it to President Donald Trump. The legislation would give Trump authority to impose tariffs of up to 100% on countries buying Russian oil and gas, potentially including India. Supporters say the bill is aimed at pressuring Russia, while opponents including Congressman Gregory Meeks argue it gives the President excessive tariff powers and could raise costs for Americans.
