Home minister Amit Shah reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. A statement by his ministry said that the number of terror incidents declined from 417 in 2018 to 229 in 2021, while security forces personnel killed in action came down from 91 to 42.

The meeting was attended by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, J&K lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha and Army chief Manoj Naravane, besides home ministry officials. The statement said that Shah appreciated efforts of security agencies which led to reduction in terror incidents in Jammu & Kashmir over the last few years.

"The home minister directed that the security grid be strengthened to ensure zero cross-border infiltration and to eliminate terrorism," it said. Security personnel have stepped up operations against militant organisations and neutralised several modules recently.

The Centre had in August 2019 read down Article 370 and bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir. The second paper on delimitation of assembly seats was recently shared with the associate members of the commission and several members, including those from the National Conference and PDP, had raised objections to the redrawn maps of constituencies.
