The Centre on Friday backed Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, taking congnisance of Channi's allegation against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for its alleged links to banned Sikhs For Justice.

Union home minister Amit Shah on Friday assured Channi that he would 'personally look into' AAP's alleged ties with the pro-Khalistan outfit.

In a letter, Shah wrote: "As per your letter, a political party being in contact with and seeking support from an anti-national, separatist and banned outfit during elections is a serious matter in the context of national security. The agenda of such people is no different from the agenda of the nation's enemies." Shah adds, "I assure you that no one will be permitted to disturb the nation's unity. The government of India is taking this issue seriously and I will personally look into the matter in depth."


SFJ was banned by MHA in 2019 under UAPA and several of its members have been designated as militants under the amended UAPA. It's leaders are also under investigation under various FIRs regist led by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
