Court sends ex-RG Kar College principal Sandip Ghosh and Tala SHO Abhijit Mondal to CBI custody till Sept 25

The Sealdah court on Friday extended the CBI custody of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital's former principal Sandip Ghosh and Tala police station officer incharge Abhijit Mondal till September 25. The two have been arrested in connection with the rape and murder of a trainee doctor.

Ghosh was arrested by the CBI on September 2 for his alleged involvement in the financial irregularities at the hospital amid the protests over the rape and murder of the on-duty trainee doctor. He was later accused of evidence tampering in the rape-murder case. On Thursday, Ghosh's medical license was cancelled.



Mandal was not an accused in the rape-murder, CBI told the court while seeking his custody; they suspected him of evidence-tampering and involvement in a "nexus or conspiracy". The officer was suspended by the Kolkata Police on Wednesday.


The CBI had arrested Mondal in connection with RG Kar rape-murder case on September 14.

CBI said they had charged both Mandal and Ghosh with destruction of evidence, that of a public servant disobeying directions under law, and criminal conspiracy under BNSS.

The body of the 31-year-old doctor was found at the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.
