The CBI has arrested Ghosh and three of his alleged associates in this case.
The West Bengal Medical Council (WBMC) on Thursday cancelled the registration of former principal of RG Kar Sandip Ghosh, an official said. Ghosh, who is in CBI custody in connection with the rape-murder case of a woman doctor at the hospital, has been removed from the list of Registered Medical Practitioners maintained by the WBMC on September 19.

His licence was cancelled under various provisions of the Bengal Medical Act, 1914, he said.

The CBI has arrested Ghosh and three of his alleged associates in this case. The ED case, filed under various sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), stems from the CBI FIR.

The irregularities surfaced after the alleged rape and murder of a 31-year-old woman doctor at the hospital on August 9, leading to massive protests in West Bengal and a continuing impasse between doctors and the state government.

The ED, following raids at the locations of Ghosh, claimed his wife purchased two immovable assets without "proper approval" from West Bengal government authorities.

Earlier this week, a Kolkata court extended the CBI custody of ex-principal of Ghosh and Tala police station officer in charge Abhijit Mondal for three days in the medic's rape and murder case. Since Ghosh and Mondal were not cooperating with CBI officers, an extension of their custody was required, the CBI informed the court.

The agency said that its detectives were yet to get any evidence of gang rape in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital case.

Ghosh was arrested earlier by the same agency on September 2 for his alleged involvement in the financial irregularities at RG Kar hospital. Three of his accomplices have also been arrested by the central agency.

A Kolkata Police civic volunteer, Sanjay Roy, was arrested by the Kolkata Police in connection with the rape and murder case which is now being investigated by the CBI on an order of the Calcutta High Court.
