Kolkata Rape-Murder: Former RG Kar College principal Sandip Ghosh arrested by the CBI in connection to the case

Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday arrested RG Kar Medical College & Hospital former Principal Sandip Ghosh and Officer-in-Charge of Tala Police Station in connection of the rape and murder case of a Post Graduate trainee doctor, who died on August 9.

Ghosh and Officer In-Charge of Tala Police Station Abhijit Mondal have been arrested on charges of misleading investigation in the initial probe by Kolkata Police and tampering of evidence, people in the know said.

Mondal and other officers were interrogated Saturday morning and Mondal was arrested late evening.


Mondal is now being taken for a medical test by the CBI after arrest. he was quizzed for eight times before arrest and lack of inconsistency was reportedly found in his statement, according to those aware of the matter.

Ghosh is currently in judicial custody after his arrest in a corruption case dating back to his tenure at RG Kar. He is currently in judicial custody in Presidency jail.

Calcutta High Court had handed both investigations – into the rape-murder as well as the financial irregularities at RG Kar – to the CBI, effectively taking the case way from the Kolkata Police.
