CM Suvendu Adhikari approves 200 km land transfer to BSF; ward expansion in KMC & Howrah

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said during a Special Assembly Session announcement in Kolkata on August 6 that the "cabinet has approved the transfer of over 200 kilometers of land to the BSF" and that land has also been handed over for national highways and Navodaya Vidyalayas. He said the delimitation process for the Kolkata and Howrah Municipal Corporations is underway, increasing wards "from 144 to 209 in Kolkata" and "from 50 to 60 in Howrah," with a one-day Assembly session scheduled for August 12 to amend the Municipal Corporation Act. Adhikari also said the state has approved renaming the rural housing scheme from "Bangla Bari" to "Paschim Banga Awas Yojana" and is formulating an additional benefit scheme "over and above the Rs 5,000 provided under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana."
